Drake reignites beef with Kanye West
Drake appeared to stoke the lingering beef with Kanye West during a performance in Chicago on Saturday night, part of his nationwide tour with Migos. While performing the track "Know Yourself" from If You're Reading This It's Too Late, Drake subtly altered the lyrics to insult Kanye West in front of an audience in his hometown.
In the song's original version, the lyrics are "Had a job sellin' Girbaud jeans / I had a yellow TechnoMarine / Then Kanye dropped, it was polos and backpacks." On Saturday, Drake switched "Kanye dropped" to "Kanye flopped."
The Drake/Kanye conflict escalated over the summer thanks to Pusha-T, a rapper signed to and president of Kanye's label G.O.O.D. Music, who referenced Drake's ghostwriting scandal on the song "Infrared." Drake came back with "Duppy Freestyle," a song which lays out his own writing for Kanye, including his latest album ye(Drake would eventually receive a writing credit on the song "Yikes." The fighting died down after Drake declined to respond to Pusha-T's "The Story of Adidon," though he does address the allegations of ignoring his son on the Scorpion track "Emotionless."
It is believed that Kanye may have been speaking to Drake on his song "No Mistakes:" "Too close to snipe you, truth told, I like you / Too bold to type you, too rich to fight you / Calm down, you light skin!"
Will Kanye respond to Drake's new jab at him? We will find out soon enough.
